Blogiversary 2.0

Two years ago today I registered the domain and gave birth to (if you will) this site you’re at right now. It’s been a fun few years, the opportunities I’ve had, the people I’ve met, the things I’ve learnt, the amount of times people have emailed me asking “is the little red monkey like, a real monkey” have all been interesting.

Things have changed, my blog entries certainly have become much more substantial, my design has defiantly improved – to the point where I was nominated for ‘Best Designed Weblog’ – and I’m currently writing a book on the topic of blogging (a novel).

Over the last two years you’ve probably noticed that most of my entries have a sarcastic feel to them, this is because I like finding humour in things, my back injury for instance. Even though it’s painful and I have days when frustrated to the point that I want to cry, writing a funny open letter addressed to it helps ease the frustration. I’ve received emails from people (male, female, young and old) thanking me for blogging, they tell me about how they were having a bad day until they read a certain entry in my blog and it cheered them up immensely.

I started my blog because I wanted a creative outlet, a place to put the words that dance around in my head when I should be sleeping, and contrary to poplar belief I didn’t start it because I think I’m hot shit, I want attention and I’m a fucking Barbie that needs validation about my looks. Anyone who’s been with me since the start would know that.

People sometimes ask me how long I’ll keep blogging and to tell you the truth I don’t know. I blog because it’s relaxing to sit down at the end of a day and write about something I’ve seen, done or heard about. I blog because it’s fun and the day it stops being fun is the day when I’ll stop blogging (don’t worry, it’s still fun).

I want to thank Rich, who’s not only my friend that I can geek out with and talk hardware, but also the person who hosts my site. I’d also like to thank you for reading.

  1. I confess, I read your site as much as I can. Your entries are far more interesting than almost any other blog out there. I love your sense of humor, and I love your site design. I can’t remember how I found you but I’m sure glad I have! Happy anniversary to!

  2. i agree amanda, but i think i do remember how i got to this site, i was searching for ash and amanda from ‘my restaurant rules’ tv show in australia, and somehow i got to this site, dunno how – i dont think kitta has blogged anythign about it, but somehow it linked me to here. Like they say, some of the best things in life are discovered by mistake.

  3. Happy anniversary! I found this site through a link on Kieth’s site, when everyone was doing that hing where ya open a book to a certain page and line and blog about what it says. Since then I’ve read every entry and I sure hope it never stops being fun for ya, cuz ur an awesome writer and very entertaining aswell.

Disclaimer: If this entry seems at all sappy, it is entirely the fault of Forest Gump. That movie does sumthin to ya, I say.

Disclaimer’s Disclaimer: If the previous disclaimer seemed at all sappy, it’s again Forest Gump’s fault.

and yet… in that time, I’ve not managed to do half the things you have. But I’m not ashamed, because this site is not too shabby.

  10. I love your blogs and I love this site. I’ve learned to appreciate the very special things while they last. I think anyone that takes the time to “get to know you” understands where your coming from.

  11. Hm. Two years of continuous blogging aren’t bad in the blogosphere. Congrats! And it’s always fascinating to see the rapid development of the nano-publishing down under (from my point of view) ;- ) So have fun and prosper and continue in being who you are…

  12. well, don´t be worry! you never will be a “barbie girl “. I started to read you blog onde eyar ago, and it´s very funny and intersting. Now the blogs are very popular but a lot of them are very [wow, very much!] sutpids, with tons of “hello kitty” things. Just few ones are good. You is one of them.

Stay alway here posting and I will be here too. Bye.
