Odd Spot

I only noticed something odd today, which was that the bit of paper that covers the sticky part on Libra sanitary pads now comes with some facts on it…

No kidding, grapes explode?

I can just imagine the meeting at Libra…

The boss: “Ok people, we need to come up with something new, so the ladies will buy our products, any ideas?”
Jill, the only female in management: “We could make a commercial that pisses them off, thus making them remember us.”
The boss: “No, we need to think bigger people.”
Craig: “What about re-designing the packets once again, maybe we could find out a way to make an invisible case, so when it falls out of their bags there will be no embarrassment. We all know how the ladies hate tampon incidents.”
The boss: “We tried that last year, the test subjects couldn’t find the case once they dropped it.”
Ben: “I know! Why don’t we put silly little facts on the bit of paper that covers the sticky part?”
The boss: “Fantastic idea Ben, we could call it ‘odd spot’, it would be a hit with the ladies!”

Ben gets a raise and I write a blog entry about sanitary pads.

Remember those cute little Leunig cartoons on the Minties wrappers? That’s what we need more of.

Shame I don’t buy Libra either.

Isn’t it amazing what people do to sell their products?
The next step would be condoms with jokes on them… at least even if the relationship breaks up we can still laugh about it… 😦

I can imagine all the fun reading those bits of trivia while changing your pad! lol. it sure is the oddest place to spot such random info. Unfortunately, we don’t have libra here (i think). It would be more appropriate if they had put women’s hygiene-related trivia or anything that has to do with girls for that matter cause after all, it is a sanitary pad but then it wouldn’t be called an odd spot πŸ™‚

    Anyway, very interesting site Kitta!

That commentary reminds me so much of those Orange phone adverts they play in the cinemas here, have you seen it?

They host meetings with well established actors/directors/authors and basically think up ways of promoting the phone company within a film.
    By the end of the meeting they come up with ideas such as;
the main character works hard in the rain forest as he wears his t-shirt with ‘I use Orange’ printed on the front. Unfortunately they get stranded but he still has his trusty Orange phone which not only allows him to call home but also manages to save the rainforest with one simple press of a button.

    Made me buy one.

This begs the question of how sales pitches for touchy subject type products come about.

Do they say one day…man our sales are just hurting…you know what we need is a flashy campaign to get us back in the + numbers, you know something that will get em coming back for more…Now hmmmm should we be tasteful and respectful or just come right out and grab em by the horns?

Next thing you know they will be promoting medicine to help older guys get their groove back…oh wait to late…

Man you know what they need…spring boarding off this idea…they should print on toilet paper with silly stuff like this and then you won’t need to clutter up the lue with magazines and such! YES Brilliant!

Some things just do not need to be promoted.

That’s… um…… great. Really… great. Just what women need. BTW, I think there’s something wrong with my grapes. I put them in the microwave, but they aren’t exploding 😦

And the gum thing reminds me about somethin’ that happened when I was, like, maybe 7 years old. I was into hockey cards and all that crap, and they had these really old hockey cards for sale at Buck Or Two(probly bout 1984’s, I can’t remember though). Well they came with gum, like all the hockey cards used too, but I wasn’t thinking that the gum in the hockey cards would actually be from 1984 aswell 😦 I was up all night holding the bucket.

I don’t know what’s weirder: the fact that you just wrote an entry about pads, or the fact that I just read an entry about pads. Either way, those odd spots were oddly interesting. Kinda makes me wish I had a uterus.

No, the grapes thing doesn’s seem to be working. Anyway, why would you want to put grapes in a microwave? A fork is so much more fun :p

Kitta, I can’t believe that you actually wrote an entry on sanitary products – highly amusing though, and personally, i’ve wondered about those facts since they first came out! Obviously the grapes one is incorrect, so maybe the others are too! However, that marketing ploy is better than the Kotex one for their ‘U’ brand… where it was shadow marketing for about 3 months before they told us what they were… and now the ads have people roling over them in steamrollers! Bwahaha

Why is it that we only get 10 different odd spots per pack of 10/12 pads? Boring! Out of the hundreds of Odd Spots they number, I’ve seen less than 50. Hmm, I get the feeling that they put so much effort into the ‘Odd Spots’ that they left out quality control. But I guess that’s another issue, which I will have to follow up. You’re getting sloppy, Libra!

Libra decided to put facts on the pads after a study found men to have more factual knowledge than women by an alarming percentage. So why not try and turn that around by putting useless facts in a place men cant see.
