Upgrading
Posted on Tuesday, 21st September 2004 at 7:50pmI’m upgrading to WordPress 1.2, please excuse the mess…
Done.
I have to say this. WordPress is like that awesome friend you have that is always amazing and surprises you with their constant coolness. Last night I expected my layout to break and hours of messing around to follow, so when I refreshed and saw that the index.php wasn’t broken, I was pretty damn happy.
Wordpress is sexy.

oooh, that can be messy. Maybe you could have held off for Wordpress 1.3? That’s a really huge change in the way of thinking…
I was lucky when I was switching to 1.2, a while back, that I had a local (non-live) server to test it out on first. It is worth the upgrade, in the end, simply because I &heart; plugins =)

Karen, it really wasn’t messy at all, it took 5 minutes and didn’t break my old index.php. Even the old Amazon media hack is good for now, until I install a new one. I should have updated the blog last night, but I started to feel quite sick (something I ate), so I went to bed. I didn’t want to hold off upgrading till 1.3, spam was becoming a problem.

You’re pretty lucky, then. I had some issues, but did eventually get it working. I guess the more popular your site gets, the more you need spam control.
One thing I can see as an issue right now is the ‘ and ” marks in your RSS - they’re coming up as ‘ and “. This was some issue I had as well, but I can’t for the life of me remember how I fixed it.

Does this mean you’ll be trying out the cruft-free permalinks next? It doesn’t really mess up backwards compatbility, plus it makes things so much prettier (or sexier if you please).

Hmm. I upgraded from 1.0 to 1.2, and there were some small issues. Opgraded from 1.2 to 1.3a and worked as a charm. WP es verdadéramente sexy!
