Slow Day

I am having a slow day today. If I could have stayed in bed all day, without being woken up at 10am by an ambitious family member, I’m sure I would have. Because I was in such a slow mood today, I watched ‘The In Laws’. Pretty good movie, made me forget about some things for over an hour, which is what all good movies should do.
I was looking through my tracking system before and noticed that someone in a forum was talking about the CSS shadow effect around my pictures. Dunstan is the guy to go see about that, check out his entry on how to create the same effect.
I also had to set up a filter to catch any emails that contain the new worm that’s doing the rounds. I’ve noticed the file sizes are about 30 to 40 kb, may be from a spoofed address (I got one for alice@kitta.net) and contains ‘Test’, ‘Mail Delivery System’, ‘Mail Transaction Failed’ or the popular ‘Hi’ in the subject line. So keep an eye out for that.
To end my slow day I’m going to watch Nip/Tuck later, it started to lag a bit there in the middle but I’m hoping the season final tonight will make up for it.
2004

You know you are living in the year 2004 when…
- Your reason for not staying in touch with family is because they do not have e-mail.
- You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
- Your grandmother asks you to send her a JPEG file of your newborn so she can create a screen saver.
- You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home.
- Every commercial on television has a web site address at the bottom of the screen.
- You buy a computer and 3 months later it’s out of date and sells for half the price you paid.
- Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t have the first 20 or 30 years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go get it.
- Using real money, instead of credit or debit, to make a purchase would be a hassle and take planning.
- You just tried to enter your password on the microwave.
- You consider second-day air delivery painfully slow.
- Your dining room table is now your filing cabinet.
- Your idea of being organized is multiple-colored Post-it notes.
- You hear most of your jokes via e-mail instead of in person.
- You get an extra phone line so you can get phone calls.
- You disconnect from the Internet and get this awful feeling, as if you just pulled the plug on a loved one.
- You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.
- You wake up at 2 AM to go to the bathroom and check your e-mail on your way back to bed.
- You start tilting your head sideways to smile.
Oh and happy Australia Day, be sure to drink, say g’day a lot and have a BBQ. ![]()
Crack problem?

I was reading the newspaper today while waiting for my lunch to cook. I was mainly reading the personal ads, not because I’m ‘looking’, but because there is always at least one ad in there that is a good laugh. Like this one:

I think the person who placed the ad is talking about the Domino’s pizza ad in Australia, where all the girls act like blokes. But to anyone that hasn’t seen it, the ‘crack problem’ joke might not go down well.

The evil one is sleeping on my lap as I type this, she keeps looking up at me as if to say “Excuse me, I’m trying to sleep here you know. Stop that annoying typing!” .
You’ve probably noticed that Kitta.net was down for a day and a bit, sorry about that, the server it was on didn’t want to play nice (and I just love how it choose to be a complete tosser during bloggie voting, thanks a lot server). So it’s was moved to a nicer one.
Apart from bad mouthing the old server, I’ve been planning an attack of “mum can we get foxtel digital TV”. We already have foxtel, but today I received word that foxtel digital will be coming out soon. I have to plan this attack well, and have a few back up plans just in case the “look at the cool news channels” or “eastenders… in digital!” plans don’t work. Wish me luck.
My brother: Oi, it says here that you can ride a horse on a road but not on a freeway.
Me: Yes, that is true.
My brother: I’m so going to get a horse then ride it to uni everyday.
Me: Umm, no.
My brother: That would be so cool, it would piss people off too…
Me: *sighs*
I better stop typing now, the evil one is starting to head butt my hands to get me to stop typing. I am just a pillow to her.
First the bloggies, then the world

I found out that Kitta.net has been selected as one of the five finalists for Best Designed Weblog in the fourth annual Bloggies. I would have blogged about this sooner, but I’ve been trying to recover from the shock of being up against sites such as simplebits.com and whatdoiknow.org. But you know what they say, the grass is always greener on the other side - or in this case - I think other sites rock more than my own.
The monkey on the other hand thinks this is fantastic, he keeps saying “first the bloggies then the world” and making devious plans. I am happy just to be nominated and thrilled by the thought of winning. So if you want Kitta.net win go vote for it!
I was also happy to see some of my favourite blogs are finalists, Shinyplasticbag.com is up for for Best Canadian Weblog and gtmcknight.com (who’s been at the beach for days) for Best Non-Weblog Content and 1976design.com/blog is up for Best Programming of a Weblog. And of course, dooce.com is up for Weblog of the Year.
Sadly, I know I won’t be making it to the award ceremony at SXSW. Not only is money an issue, but I am also going on a family holiday around the time of the ceremony (something which we haven’t done in over 4 years). So if you are going, please tell me. I need someone to accept for me if I do win.
Lastly, I want to say a big huge thank you to everyone who nominated Kitta.net and to the panel of judges who voted for me.
The monkey will remember this when he takes over the world.
75 bottles of coke on the wall

I haven’t been sleeping very well over the last few nights. I spent about five hours last night staring at the roof and trying to trick myself into going to sleep. Which is hard to do when you know what tricks you’re trying to pull on yourself.
1am - “Ok, if you sleep I’ll buy you macca’s tomorrow, how’s that for a deal!”
2am - “So you don’t like being bribed with tasty foods hey? Well, then I’d like to remind you that we do have things to do tomorrow!”
3am - “75 bottles of coke on the wall, 75 bottles of coke, if one of those bottles accidentally falls there will be 74 bottles of coke on the wall. 74 bottles of coke on the wall…”
4am - “I’m going to stop talking to you now, I bet that’s why we’re still up, because I keep bloody talking to you!”
5am - “Go to sleep or I’ll turn on the TV and you’ll have to watch some religious show!”
Funny enough just after 5am was when I got to sleep, clearly myself doesn’t like bible TV. ![]()
